CREATIVE ESSAY

Our first project is to encourage students to think creatively in many ways of designing environmentally-responsible and resource-efficient structures and cities, with amazing innovations and advances introduced every day. For this assignment, we are required to form a group of four people and write a creative essay of the different ways of sustainable design. Our group decided to write on the topic of bringing nature back in the heart of urban development as an initiative to create a greener Malaysia.

For our first project, I was able to become closer and meet with new people by working as a group with them. Not only that, this project also helped deepened my understanding and application of greener design and innovations that should be applied in everyday design to for a greener future.

DAYLIGHTING

For our second project, students are to work in a group of five to study passive designs of daylighting to a building of our choosing. Our group chose to study The Glassell School of Art located in Houston, Texas. Through this assignment, we are able to identify the passive design strategies for daylighting, analyze the effect of comfort factors in a person and in space relating to lighting, identify architectural idea or concept and sustainability features of this lighting system.

For our second project, I was able to learn and understand the concept and importance of applying passive design creatively to avoid wastage of electrical energy. Other than that, for this assignment I was assigned to create the 3D model of the exterior of our chosen building Glassell School of Art. I was also able to learn and experience modeling and rendering using applications such as SketchUp, Lumion and Revit.

REFLECTION

thinking and problem solving skills -

For all two of my projects, I am required to study and learn new things which caused me to experience challenges in the beginning. Whenever I was struggling, I reached out to my friends and also looked up for inspirations from different sources to help me improve progressively from each project to another. I also watched a lot of tutorials and got my cousin to teach me when struggling with 3D modeling using softwares such as SketchUp and Revit.

communication skills -

For our first project and second project for this module, we are required to work as a group. Due to the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to meet each other to work on the project face to face. However, we managed to communicate to each other using different methods such as group chats and also video calls to finish the project together.

digital literacy -

Through our second and final assignment for this module, I was able to try out new 3D modeling and rendering applications that will help me in the completion of getting my architecture degree. I was able to try and get better in applications such as Sketchup, Lumion, Revit, Velux and many more.
