PROJECT 1

RESEARCH PAPER (ABANDON BUILDINGS)

As part of this assignment, we have to work in groups of four people and create research papers and presentations with a word count of between 300 and 5000. Each group is tasked with breaking down and analysing one of the themes indicated. Our team was given the task of researching and writing about abandoned buildings. Students are required to analyse a specific researched issue, showing the connections between the theoretical ideas and the chosen works, using these concepts as the theoretical framework of each individual theme.

Project Reflection -

It's been eye-opening to think about the essay about abandoned structures. I initially thought of the topic as just another assignment, but after doing some research, I have a newfound respect for the abandoned buildings that are scattered across our urban and rural landscapes. It's interesting how these once-active structures are now just mute witnesses to the passage of time.

PROJECT 2

EXPLORING LOCAL ARCHITECTURE/BUILT ENVIRONMENT RESPONSES TO SPECIFIC SDG GOALS AND TARGETS

The building I chose to study the SDG Goal 13 Climate Action is Heriot Watt University located in Putrajaya. The assignment required students to extract the SDG Goal and study their goals and targets and investigate how the selected building's design and architecture responds to their specific goal.

Final Outcome -

Project Reflection -

It has been a vital learning experience to study Sustainable Development Goal 13 on climate action within the setting of Heriot-Watt University. I learned more about the issues we face and the importance of taking local action when I dug more into the university's efforts to address climate change and its effects on the neighbourhood building.

REFLECTION

thinking and problem solving skills -

The difficult and varied problems this curriculum presented were one of the main ways it helped me develop my thinking skills. We were intentionally pushed outside of our comfort zones and encouraged to look at challenges from different perspectives by the themes and assignments we encountered. My capacity for critical thought and situational analysis was enhanced by this exposure to many events and viewpoints.

communication skills -

The importance of open-ended conversations and brainstorming sessions was also emphasised in the course. Participating in cooperative problem-solving activities with my peers encouraged a fruitful exchange of ideas. I learned how to express myself clearly, listen intently to others, and combine different points of view into a unified whole.

lifelong learning -

A strong knowledge of the significance of sustainability in every aspect of life has been instilled in me as a result of my participation in this module on sustainable design. This semester has taught me that sustainable design is more than just a subject to learn and then move on from; rather, it is a lifelong learning path that calls for constant investigation and attention.
