PROJECT 1
CONTEXTUAL STUDY SKETCH JOURNAL OF A TRADITIONAL STREET
Our first assignment introduces the students of the important tangible and intangible qualities of a traditional street. The students are allowed to choose one of the streets that have been assigned to study their distinctive place contexts and I have chosen to study the street of Jalan Hang Kasturi, Malacca. After selecting a street, students are required to conduct a site visit and identify the street’s physical and non-physical contexts. Lastly, students are to compose of an A4 manual sketch journal to demonstrate understanding of place contexts.

Project Reflection -
For our first assignment, I was able to visit Malacca for the first time to study the street of Jalan Hang Kasturi. I had a lot of fun and was able to understand why it is important to conserve these traditional streets as it showcases the culture and history through their facades. Not only that, I was also able to improve my sketching skills and was introduced to understanding place context that will help in future assignments.
INFOGRAPHIC
VERNACULAR MALAY ARCHITECTURE
Before moving on to our second and final project, students are to work individually to compose an A3 infographic to show their understanding of vernacular and traditional architecture as discussed during lectures. Referring to lecture handouts and other sources from the internet, I decided to compose an infographic on Vernacular Malay Architecture focusing on the theme of their building typology.
Final Outcome -
Project Reflection -
For our infographic assignment, I was able to understand the skills and elements to provide an infographic poster which I am able to bring forward to our second and final assignment. This assignment also gave me the opportunity to revise all of our lecture handouts in order to choose the most suitable topic for me. During this process, I was able to gain more understanding on the different topics on Asian architecture that I missed and also gained more knowledge on Malay Vernacular Architecture from external sources as well during research.
PROJECT 2
POSTER AND SEMINAR-CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
For our second and final assignment, students are to work in a group to conduct critical interpretations on the issues observed from their selected sites. Our group consisted of 7 members and we decided to select Jalan Tun HS Lee as our site to study on. After investigating several issues, an appraisal framework is developed with the guide of our tutor to set our focus. Our group proposed the use of adaptive reuse of the street to maintain the street’s architectural facades and included various case studies.

Project Reflection -
For our final project, I was able to learn the different issues and creatively think of different solution to overcome it on Jalan Tun HS Lee. Other than that, through this assignment I was able to gain a deeper understanding on adaptive reuse which I think is a design solution that should be implemented more in our country to maintain the culture and historical values on our building facades. Lastly, working as a group in this assignment allowed me to grow more closer to my group members as we worked together.
REFLECTION
thinking and problem solving skills -
For all three of the projects, I tried my best to think critically and creatively to create solutions when facing various problems. Whenever I was struggling with sketching and coming up with ideas, I reached out to my friends and also looked up for different inspirations from different sources to help me improve progressively from each project to another..
communication skills -
For our final project, we are required to work as a group. Since the Movement Control Order has been lifted, I was able to physically meet with my group members and tutors where we would discuss and work on our assignments together
intrapersonal skills -
When working on all three projects with relatively heavy workload, I was able to manage my time in order to avoid working at the last minute to submit my projects on time. I managed my time as best as I can by scheduling my time among the other project for different modules.
